Spreading smiles, joy and birthday cake: An Organisation that celebrates birthdays of underprivileged children

 

All volunteers take out a few hours on weekends, from their busy schedules and celebrate their birthday and birthdays of underprivileged children.

Imagine growing up without ever having your birthday celebrated. It isn’t the happiest of thoughts, is it? We cannot imagine a world where one day, every year, is not all about us. We cannot imagine a birthday without cake and gifts and the amazing food that mom cooks. It is almost a necessity. But that is only because we are privileged enough. There are those who don’t get to see a proper meal every day; let alone celebrate the day they were born.

A group of youths of I-Help Foundation Goa plans to change that. They take out time on weekends and do their level best to make sure these children too, have a day all to themselves and feel an integral part of our society.

Through I-Help Foundation Goa's Instagram, Twitter and subsequently a Facebook group, we have amassed a lot of volunteers who expressed their interest in doing something unique for these kids. After a bit of planning, Sohail along with his friends Namrata along with I-Help Team members celebrated the birthdays of Sohail with these kids in an orphanage in North Goa,Goa.

The thing that stands out in these celebrations is that that when they celebrate the birthday of one, they celebrate the birthday of all. It is a celebration for all those who usually do not have much to celebrate about. The celebration includes a lot of fun and games for the children (colouring, singing dancing etc), giving them gifts and of course, a birthday cake and lunch arranged for the kids after the celebration.

This has become a regular activity for I-Help Foundation Goa. We feel joyful , blessed and happy to see smiles on the faces of these children. 

The idea is not about the money you spend. The idea is to give these children a little time.

Their smiles are testimony to how much a gesture like this affects them.
